From the vendor:

Special Edition Shaving Soap made to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of Saponificio Varesino.

This shaving soap is different from the previous three we made (Aromatic Fern, Dolomiti, Manna di Sicilia), since the raw materials have been measured and balanced in a very different way.

In addition to the previous formulation “Beta 4.0”, that has been reworked, we added the butter of illipe, which prevents and combats skin dryness giving long lasting hydration and bringing back its own elasticity. We added Macadamia oil, known to have a natural sun protection factor (SPF). In addition to protecting the skin from the sun, it moisturises and protects.

A specially designed formulation to ensure extremely comfortable shaves and a fabulous post shave .

All the above characteristics are the explanation of the name Beta 4.1

A soap with generous dimensions (90mm diameter) in aluminum tin, decorated with a metallic embossed label.

The fragrance is a fresh cologne, aquatic, floral and aromatic, with woody base note and amber.

Below we explore the characteristics of the soap:
• 100% vegetable (except fragrance)
• NO palm oil (forest protection)
• NO preservatives / chelators / antioxidants of chemical origin
• NO petroleum, mineral oils, dyes, parabens

A rich formula in natural active ingredients, whose properties (softening, emollient, moisturizing, rejuvenating of the skin barrier, firming, lubricant, soothing, anti-inflammatory, toning) will bestow unique shaving experience.

Usage advice

Our formulations contain active ingredients that, in order to give the best perfomance, need to solubilize and/or melt. The maximum performance can be obtained in this way:
  • cover the soap surface with a thin veil of hot water for few minutes. The quantity of water needed may vary depending on your water hardness and the rate of humidity of the soap, a correct quantity is when the whole soap surface is covered by water,
  • soak a badger shaving brush (being it the best perfomer when it comes to water absorbing),
  • rinse it well and then pour the thin veil of water that bloomed the soap on the knot, and then start loading (20-30 seconds),
  • face/bowl lather without adding water.

Anyone who knows me, they know that Saponificio Varesino is a guilty pleasure of mine. Are their products worth the premium price compared to some other manufacturers? I truly believe so.

The 70th anniversary soap is no exception. The scent, like most of their offerings is not overpowering, but if you take the time to really investigate the scent you’ll find it to be complex.

The soap itself provides great qualities for a shaving soap which is no surprise from a Saponificio Varesino soap.

The only slight knock against the 70th anniversary edition soap is the container is easy to dent. It is a very nice design, but a dent sort of takes the shine off the packaging a bit.

However, overlook that minor issue and you’ll be rewarded with one of the best soaps in my humble opinion.

The trend in shaving soaps is toward quick lathering soft soaps, but I really enjoy the process and the slightly extra time it takes to lather from a hard puck of soap like this one.

May Saponificio Varesino continue to make soap for another 70 years!

The 70th Anniversary scent is a fantastic green-fern smell that lasts for quite a while. The soap is a top performer; I was initially reluctant to try vegan soaps due to the slickness offered by tallow, but this soap blew my expectations out of the water. Give it a shot!

I have both the manna and the tundra as well, but this is hands down my favourite so far. The scent is reminiscent of Aqua di gio, and is one of the best performing soaps. It’s also a very hard soap, so despite the price will last you a long time so I think it’s very well worth it.
