Trismegistus follows in the footsteps of the legendary perfumers at Hermes. Featuring top notes of grapefruit and orange, accented by heart notes of flint, pink peppercorn, geranium, and supported by base notes of benzoin, vetiver, and cedar, this is a scent that’s masculine, mellow, and perfect for any situation. Between the scent, slickness, and post-shave, you’ll understand why we named it “thrice great.”

Trismegistus has a similar scent to Terre D’Hermes, one of my favorite scents. I also have other soaps with the same scent profile from other artisan soap makers, but what sets this apart, is the soap base, which currently is on my top 1. The soap base to me, is on a different level, very slick, thick and shiny, almost to the consistency of Elmer’s Glue, so better add more water, since it’s a thirsty soap. It’s packaged in a very sturdy plastic container with a 4in wide opening for easy loading. You’ll never go wrong with an L&L Grooming soap, now named Declaration Grooming, excellent performer with an excellent post shave feel.

If you’re after a citrus scent you have a choice to make. L&L’s Trismegistus or Stirling’s Arkadia, as they smell almost identical. The L&L offering gets five stars for the scent which is a strong, invigorating splash of citrus best suited for spring or summer, but loses a star to Stirling’s more economical (but still excellent performing) soap. If you want the best of the best though, this is it. L&L’s bison tallow formula outdistances most other artisans by a long shot but it’s on the soft side so you don’t have to load as long as you would a hard puck or even a soft soap like Barrister and Mann.

If you’ve smelled Fine’s L’orange aftershave this smells exactly like it so the two pair very well together. The soap is very soft, almost seems more like a cream to me than a soap, but performs well and loads easily nonetheless.
