It has been said that some of the finest quality vetiver oil comes from the Reunion Islands. This scent is our tribute to the wonderful scent of vetiver:  earthy like patchouli, but a murky “underwater” quality and a definite green note. Our blend ties together vetiver, oakmoss, and petrichor for a scent that is not freshly-cut grass, but darker, with a somewhat bitter, dirty edge.

This is an outstanding vetiver scent. The performance of MLS soaps ranks among the best in artisan shavedom. And this scent is 5e perfect balance of sweet, resinous, and mossy. Close to Guerlain Vetiver.

  2. Caia Innis

Fresh off the puck before you ever even lather it up, this stuff smells like you’re hiking across a rich, fertile meadow on a hot summer day after a thunderstorm and now it’s hot and humid and you just slipped in a mud puddle and landed face first in a patch of moss and grass. Shockingly realistic. Once you’ve transformed the solid soap into a foamy lather, the petrichor dies down a little, the vetiver becomes more dominant, and it starts to smell more like walking through a humid vegetable greenhouse on a warm spring day: you’re surrounded by greenery and the warm damp soil is an undercurrent beneath it all. Sort of medium strength. Post-shave it doesn’t change much from there and it has good staying power. This is not a clean, crisp vetiver scent like Terre d’Hermes or Grey Vetiver – this is dirt and grass and it’s really neat.

I can’t fairly evaluate the shave performance of this soap for two reasons: one, I was allergic to something in it and it made my face feel like it was on fire; and two, in my hard / alkaline prairie river water the slickness was very poor compared to most other artisan soaps I’ve tested. This soap might take some experimentation to get good results if you’re in a similar water situation.
