The Scent

Everyone has a different idea of what a barbershop ought to smell like, but we tend to lean historically for this kind of stuff. Giovanni Maria Farina famously created the very first Eau de Cologne in the early 1700s, and it was an instant success. His formula was prized by the royal courts, and was so highly regarded that it’s still in production today. As a result of this popularity, Eau de Cologne fragrances have been staples in European barbershops for well over a hundred years.

While we don’t claim to be as gifted as Signor Farina, our Seville scent is definitely in a class all its own. Affectionately dubbed “God’s barbershop” by some of our more poetic customers, Seville is a blend of lemon, bergamot, rosemary, lavender, patchouli, and oakmoss. The name comes from the famous opera The Barber of Seville, but the scent is at home anywhere. Give it a try; you won’t be disappointed.

Seville soap is one of my favourites, one of those soaps I will buy again when it runs out. The balm has a nice thick consistency, you can turn the jar over without any spilling out. Despite it being thick it spreads over my face easily, and did not feel greasy. Scent wise to me it smells like smelling Seville off the puck. I don’t get as much of the powdery scent I get with the soap when it’s lathered up. Scent duration was long but not over powering, I got hints of it 5-6 hours after application.

One of my favourite balms. Spreads well and works great. Very calming for the skin post-shave. It’s the B&M Seville scent that’s so beloved but I don’t get the same spicy notes from the original shave soap (white jar) or the bath soap – otherwise certainly 5 stars. But an excellent quality product.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that B&M started offering Seville in balm format. As a Seville fan, I couldn’t resist and it certainly didn’t disappoint. This balm doesn’t leave your skin feeling too greasy, and the tub is actually an ideal container, preferable to the push dispenser many artisans use.
